There is one thing stronger than all the kings and queens
and all the armies of the world combined,
and that is the power of an idea whose time has come”
Victor Hugo (1848)
This series of installations questions Australia’s national identity.
A video depicting a newborn baby and the cutting of the umbilical cord urges Australia to sever it’s tied to Britain. Visitors are invited to make their own Aussie icon. Origami is modelled from an Australian flag into the shape of a kangaroo.
“A dark room invites visitors to walk a spiral of bandaged hearts, bathed in blue light, taking a journey of cultural healing”
This exhibition was made possible thanks to an Australia Council New Work grant.
