True Blue

First Draft Gallery April, May 2001

“There is one thing stronger that all the kings and queens and all the armies of the world combined, and that is the power of an idea whose time has come”

Victor Hugo 1848

This group of installations questions Australia’s national identity. A video depicting a newborn baby and the cutting of the umbilical cord urges Australia to sever its ties to Britain. Visitors are invited to make their own Aussie icon. Ozigami is modelled from an Australian flag into the shape of a kangaroo.

This exhibition was made possible thanks to an Australia Council New Work grant.
